Black and White

Black and white photography can be somewhat of a challenge. You must rely on
so much more than color to make a photo 'pop' ... texture, value, composition, etc.
Black and white photos can also be so much more interesting because there is no color.
It can lead the viewer to wonder what the colors were or even get their imagination
going while they create what they think the photo looked like with color.

The photos below are ones that I did in a photo class in college.
I developed the film and printed each photo myself.
Many sleepless nights were spent in the darkroom creating photo.
I miss the darkroom ...

Silhouettes and a Sister

Another one of my favorite things to do is photograph silhouettes.
Lucky for me I have a sister who loves being photographed. Such a fun evening.

Explosions of Color

Fireworks are definitely one of my favorite things to photograph. Sparklers are even more fun.
It amazes me how the camera picks up each spark of light. Explosions of color ... simply beautiful.

North Dakota State Fair

I absolutely LOVE the North Dakota State Fair!!! 4-H Exhibits, farm animals, commercial
buildings, the Pioneer Village, Tubby's lemonade and onion rings, deep fried candy bars
(aka "Heaven on a Stick"), caramel apples, funnel cakes, the midway, fair rides, the tractor shuttle, walking for hours around the fair ... the list goes on! But my all-time favorite thing about the
State Fair is photographing it ... especially at night. And, by far, the most interesting item to photograph would have to be the rides. It's just mind boggling to me how the camera picks
up the lights of the rides and the patterns of color that can be seen. Brilliant!
